Looking north, same place as previous post. This was also my first field use of the Rokunar (Soligor brand, sometimes sold under the Adorama name as well) digital spot meter I got from a gentleman on APUG a while ago. Absolutely straightforward piece of equipment.

it’s sad said [el subconsciente?] that one shouldn’t cry over spilled milk, so this is one of the images from the day when two 120 rolls were not enough…

White whales

You run out of film, drive behind a turn, and find this waiting for you...

Imagine driving through a landscape filled with scenes like this one above. An up and down sea of yellow and green cereal fields against a dark cloudy sky.

Now imagine that you have already exhausted all the film you were carrying, and that you did it mostly taking ‘bracket’ shots of scenes probably not worth half as much. All you have with you is your cellphone, so at least you can take a toy image of what you had in front of your eyes.

Now, let your imagination flow, one day later, same road, keep this sky, same cereal fields, and place a gorgeous abandoned shelter on the foreground. And then realize that even the cellphone is dead.

Oh well, at least that means photography is actually moving something deep inside your guts (again?).

And that I’m making way too many silly mistakes lately.

So here’s another white whale I will now go after, hopefully without loosing any of my limbs in the process !

So…

…after barely surviving the previous debacle I just went and tried to rescue a picture from the past (spring 2008) to try and get the sour taste off, some wind blur came to have some fun with me on this occasion, but still acomplished most of the initial plan…

Overexposed

I admit, I had to look for what dense, muddy, grainy, overall unsharpen negatives could mean. Quite a rare occasion to enjoy some wonderful white landscapes there ruined by a sloppy metering and lack of common sense. A good reminding that no matter how simple the discipline, try to overcome the most basic rules in pure know-it-all fashion and most often than not, you’re sold, and left with a handful of mostly unscaneable images (let’s see what comes out from the enlarger…)

Tree, clouds

Frost, grass

Cottage

Actually, the one on top was taken about a month after the bottom one, and in Ilford PanF 50. The bottom one is interesting because of the strange weather conditions, it was a foggy day but from time to time glimpses of sun were lighting up things.

And yes, I also took a ‘whole body’ shot of the house, but was stupid enough to move my finger in front of the taking lens while firing the shutter without notice. To make things worse, I still don’t know why but I decided not to get a second shot on this, something I usually do (if not a third, or fourth), so all I had left a month later was a regular foggy day.

Anyway, a month or so after the second shot, the owners decided those weeds were not looking nice around the house so they cleaned them up.

And there went the photographic appeal of an otherwise outstanding little contruction ;)
